Saying that 2023 has been a blessing would be an understatement. From mud huts in rural West Africa to fashion shoots in Tokyo, I've had the incredible opportunity to immerse myself in the diversity of global fashion and textile cultures.
Upon arriving in Japan to pursue studies at International Christian University through my home institution, I could not ignore the nagging feeling in my gut that something wasn't quite right. Sitting in my first week of classes, already a semester ahead of my studies, I began contemplating the transformative journey of the past six months and envisioning my future path. I yearn for knowledge and opportunities that transcend my current circumstances, so I decided to change my trajectory.
Over the past week, I chose to withdraw from my classes and focus on nurturing my platforms and leveraging the unique experiences that a gap semester provides. Our world is teeming with innovative companies leading the way in sustainability, and I'm determined to be a part of this movement. I aim to immerse myself in research and collaborations within the up-and-coming landscape of the fashion and textile industries.
Through this process, I've learned to distinguish between the healthy discomfort of embracing new environments and recognizing when it's time to pause, reflect, and pivot in pursuit of fresh experiences. Thanks to the internet and global networks, our world has become smaller and connections more accessible. Despite the cliché, life is too short not to follow our hearts and act on what feels right, especially when we have privilege and support in our corners.
I am thrilled and deeply grateful to continue my journey at the intersection of sustainability and innovation, eagerly anticipating the adventures and discoveries ahead. I can't wait to share my experiences with you as I embark on this exciting path.
